CLN is looking for a new Legal Associate to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, passionate team working at the cutting edge of climate litigation.
As part of the Government Network (GovNet) team, the new Legal Associate will support partners bringing framework climate litigation against governments. You will play a key role in supporting CLN's partners to develop and strengthen new and existing climate framework cases, as well as CLN’s knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation systems — through legal research, analysis, drafting, and strategic input.
You’ll combine high level knowledge in strategic climate and comparative/international law with great relationship management skills and the ability to analyse and explain complex concepts to a range of legal and non-legal audiences.
We highly value practical experience in climate litigation. At minimum, you’ll have an LLB (or equivalent) and 3+ years’ relevant post-qualification experience.
TO APPLY, please explain clearly in your covering letter why you are interested in this role and what relevant expertise, skills and qualifications you have, using the core responsibilities and person specification to guide you. You must also upload a sample of your legal writing (no more than 4-pages).
IF YOU HAVE ANY ENQUIRIES, please email recruitment@climatelitigationnetwork.org
INTERVIEW AND ASSESSMENT DATES: We expect to invite shortlisted candidates for assessment/interview in weeks commencing 21 September (written assessment) and 5 & 12 October (first and second interviews).

About the job
The Legal Associate (LA) plays a central role in delivering CLN's GovNet programme. Drawing on specialist knowledge of climate litigation and comparative and international law, the LA works closely with CLN's partners to develop and strengthen new and existing cases — through legal research, analysis, drafting, and strategic input. This is a role that sits at the intersection of legal expertise and partnership, requiring both high-quality technical work and the relationship management skills to support CLN's partners effectively. The LA contributes to CLN's knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation systems, represents the organisation in relevant external fora, and supports the development of national and international networks in the field.

Specific activities include: drafting and managing the preparation of legal materials to support new and existing cases; conducting and managing national and international comparative legal research for internal and external use; identifying opportunities for normative development and preparing relevant materials; and contributing to internal knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation, including tracking cases and developments in the strategic litigation sector.
• Developing and maintaining effective and trusted working relationships with CLN's partners — including lawyers, campaigners, funders, scientists and academics. Supporting CLN and its partners to develop and strengthen national and international networks, including through organising and facilitating partner meetings and convenings.
• Representing CLN in relevant legal, scientific, policy and academic fora.
• Supervising and managing junior members of staff, Research Fellows and Interns (if required).
